Trinity Players are a community theatrical society based at the Trinity Church Hall, Farrar Street, (off Summer Lane) in Barnsley. We were formed in the 1930’s.
How many members? Around 50 as well as many visiting members and friends. Our members range from 18 to 80 in age and from varied back-grounds. Some members are involved in every production whilst others get involved as and when they choose.
How is the group run? There is a committee of 8 to 9 members who meet monthly to decide on social events, matters arising and forthcoming play choices. There is an Annual General Meeting each year in July where new members can volunteer for the committee.
Is it a church group? No. We are a community theatre group. We do have links to the Trinity Church but we are not a religious group and are completely secular.
When do we meet? Every Wednesday at 7:30pm until 9:30pm. We usually have a refreshment break around 8:30pm. If you are involved in a play, you may need to attend more often according to the rehearsal schedule. Meetings often continue at the pub afterwards.
How do we keep in touch? Apart from our Wednesday meetings where everyone is welcome, we have a Members e-mail list. We also have a Website and Facebook page. A newsletter is produced after every Committee meeting, circulated by e-mail and posted on the website.
How many plays are performed? Usually 3 or 4 per year generally themed on comedies and dramas including a traditional Pantomime in January. It can take two to three months to produce a play and our productions do not overlap by more than a week as we tend to do one play at a time.
Where do we perform? Mainly at the Trinity Church Hall although we usually perform at the Barnsley Lamproom once per year and often partake in the Wakefield Drama Festival at the Theatre Royal Wakefield. We may take shows out into the community too.
How much are tickets? Our ticket prices are constantly under review but we keep prices as low as possible. Please see our latest posts for tickrt prices. https://www.trinityplayersbarnsley.com/
How much does it cost to be a member? Membership is £5 per year. There are no other costs.
Do I have to be an actor? No! Many of our members never go on stage and do not want to. On the other hand, if you do want to act and perform, there will be plenty of opportunity.
How do I get involved? A lot of enjoyment and hard work goes into producing professional shows for the paying public. We have many talented members but we always need new volunteers whatever your contribution. You will get plenty of support and encouragement but it’s very much up to you to volunteer and put yourself forward. Pop along on a Wednesday evening at 7:30pm or drop us an e-mail on contact@trinityplayersbarnsley.com
